WARGRAVE ROAD

TWYFORD, BERKSHIRE

ABOUT THE PROJECT

From blank canvas to a uniquely beautiful new home. Taking the time to understand the personalities and individual styles of homeowners Maia and Adrian helped create a family-friendly, welcoming space – without any dull greys in sight.

When your dream home has always been a characterful Victorian terrace in London, and then you find yourself buying a new build in a Berkshire village, knowing how to inject fun, excitement and colour into it can be a challenge. Especially when you throw different styles and tastes into the mix.

Stepping up to the challenge, I created drawings to support the architect’s plans in the early phases of the build process, including lighting positions and in-built cabinetry. And I ensured we met all the builders’ deadlines. Maia and Adrian hadn’t bought off-plan before, so I gently guided them through the flooring, kitchen and bathroom selection process.

Listening to their needs for a fun, vibrant, family-friendly home that was also great for entertaining, I created decor schemes for all the main rooms, ensuring my furniture suggestions matched their budget expectations – whilst also recommending a few key investment pieces to make their home shine.

Maia and Adrian now feel a deep connection to their home, a space where friends and family are always welcome and they can live the life they want.

DETAILS

Punchy orange and pinks are accentuated by the deep green painted backdrop creating a striking contrast.

IN FOCUS

A flatweave woollen carpet runner adds interest to the oak stairway, linking colours in the kitchen to the bedroom. Touches like this help to make the vision of a fun, vibrant home a reality.

DETAILS

A soft grey wool headboard allows for pattern in the accessories. All set off by the calm blue-hued wall. These complementary tones help to create a beautiful yet relaxing scheme.

"The builders built us a beautiful house. Kate played a huge part in helping us to
make it a beautiful home. It feels organic, and like it is truly us through and through – Kate found a way to marry our styles to create a home that speaks to both of our personalities and works day to day for our young family"

LABURNHAM ROAD

MAIDENHEAD, BERKSHIRE

ABOUT THE PROJECT

When Sharon and Paul planned to open up their Victorian home’s rear, they wanted it to feel contemporary, bright and open.

Concerned that making the changes might lose the house’s original identity, they sought our help. We discussed their concerns and we showed them how a modern space could be integrated with an older home. Mood boards for all furnishings were included with the furniture layout plans.

Their home is now a showstopper! They enjoy all the benefits of a bright, spacious home with a great layout.

IN FOCUS

Warm tones and natural finishes enhanced the cool, simple grey backdrop. We positioned the artwork around the house to make this simple design have the most impact.

BOLD DETAILS

The house is filled with artwork, natural wood, and warm metal tones to create harmony with the bright and open backdrop.

BRIGHT AND OPEN DETAILS

Hardware in black throughout all bathrooms complements the grey interiors, adding a contemporary, clean touch.

"As much as we wanted to maximise natural light, we weren’t sure how the planned contemporary space at the back would fit with the period feel at the front.

In addition to offering some layout ideas we hadn’t considered before, Kate listened to what we wanted to achieve and advised what style of windows and doors would complement the original windows.

As well as getting our style, she challenged us to think a little further about our design.

Throughout the project, Kate was responsive and flexible, bringing a kitchen designer and carpenter on board and working with our builder.

It was wonderful to have Kate on hand to help me choose the right pieces for my spaces.

It feels so ‘us’ in our house now. In addition to working brilliantly, it looks great as well!"

THE OLD SCHOOL HOUSE

BICESTER, OXFORDSHIRE

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Katrina and Stuart knew their Oxfordshire property needed some TLC when they bought it. Their full-time work schedules meant they had little time to focus on the project but they wanted to get all the details right.

They weren’t confident in their own style and feared making costly errors, resulting in them not getting their dream home.

Using my colour psychology, I helped them understand their style and they made bolder colour decisions as a result. I designed new layouts and schemes that made the most of the space and offered a striking and colourful vision for their future home.

All of the space in the house is now maximised and has the greatest possible functionality, there is ample storage and the décor truly reflects them in a way that they never would have found the confidence to achieve by themselves, whilst retaining all the character of the original cottage.

DETAILS

Using muted colours for furnishings balances and contrasts with the strong teal blue walls and sofa with oak shelving, floor and stone fireplace. This balance helped us create the perfect blend of striking and colourful yet relaxing and peaceful.

TEXTURES

We added lots of textures on the bed, topped with a grand headboard. These contrast with the hard surfaces of the wooden floor and window blind which keep the character of the cottage.

LET THERE BE LIGHT!

Opening up the two rooms was not only practical but offered up more views through the house and natural light.

"Kate really helped us with our renovation and with her flair for design and colour, our house has been transformed into a home. She understood our style and encouraged us to make bolder decisions with colour. She also supported the design process through lockdown, helping coordinate furniture orders with an ever changing build schedule."

1950s BUNGALOW RENOVATION in MARLOW, BUCKINGHAMSHIRE

ABOUT THE PROJECT

A 1950s dormer bungalow could very well become the forever home of Jo and Mark with some imagination and renovation. The building works had just begun and all the quick decisions that had to be made were daunting, and there was a fear that if they did not make a decision, they would end up getting a ‘safe’, ordinary home as a result of their indecision. This was an outcome they very much wished to avoid and we are very happy they picked us to help them!

As part of our role, we were responsible for defining their unique style and working with them to manage the project. In order to make the house feel relaxing and cohesive, we created a design scheme that ran throughout the entire house.

Their new space now boasts a light-filled, cheerful feeling that they enjoy both when they are inside and when they entertain their friends.

IN FOCUS

We used this painting by the client’s father as the starting point for the entire open plan space. We picked out colours from the piece to use in other areas of the scheme to create a relaxing and cohesive design. The cool blue backdrop gave pride of place to the artwork, visible from every angle!

Blue open plan kitchen/ living room

Using a colour thread is one way of connecting areas within a scheme together, and here the dining chairs, lamps and cushions all feature fuschia pink as their main colour. This helps to subtly tie the rooms together without being too blatant which keeps the scheme peaceful and relaxing.

"Kate’s guidance, imagination, vision and attention to detail was truly incredible; she constantly challenged us to think outside of our comfort zones. I believe that without her, our 1950s bungalow renovation would have been another plain, neutral and safe run-of-the-mill house, as opposed to the thoughtful, bold, bright and truly unique home that we now have."

BRIGHT BOLD FAMILY HOME IN BRAY, BERKSHIRE
,

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Stephen and Louisa weren’t phased by the unconventional footprint of the house they bought with their young daughters; instead, they loved its quirks and filled it with equally eccentric and unique furniture. However, there was a large blank area that needed filling. With toddlerhood behind them, they could address this too with plans for a big redecorate.

They came to us having attempted different layouts but nothing had worked successfully. They felt they were wasting space and getting nowhere.

We developed a layout plan which offered them a sense of space and defined each area’s function, providing them with a cohesive design scheme for each room that worked effectively as a whole.

They now live in a family home that meets all of their needs. Besides working well, the bold designs make it quirky and individual, telling the story of the family who lives there.

BRIGHT DETAILS

With the help of texture and colour palette, this board helped communicate how spaces within this unique space would connect with one another. This helped to visualise the bright, bold result our clients were searching for.

TEXTURAL DETAILS

Changing from one floor surface to another can sometimes be challenging. The gold trim subtly ties the rooms together and adds a bit of bright, bold bling to connect with the themes of the rest of the house.

BOLD DETAILS

A bland fitted kitchen would not be acceptable in this house! Adding art and wallpaper gave it its own individuality and luxe feel. These additions gave our clients the opportunity to display their own personalities which really makes this house feel like a home.

"Kate has given our living space the four defined areas we hoped for and found amazing complementary pieces in our exact taste and style"

BOLD COLOURFUL VICTORIAN TERRACE EARLSFIELD, LONDON

ABOUT THIS PROJECT

Having come out of the ‘young child’ era, Charlotte and Mark were ready to update many rooms in their Victorian terrace in Earlsfield. They knew they wanted to go a little bolder with their colour choices so that their home would feel more luxurious and characterful.

Charlotte had seen some images she liked but was nervous to embark on it in case it didn’t look right in her home.

Using our Colour and Style boards, we took them through step by step, what would work in each room as well as advising the right style of furnishings to achieve the bold and rich style that they were looking for. We then created furniture layouts and scheme boards for each room and oversaw the ordering and implementation of the schemes right through to the styling of accessories for each room.

The family now enjoy their stylish house and Charlotte is incredibly proud to show it off to her friends!

STRIKING DETAILS

When you need something a little different to adorn your walls, how about large gold beetles? The curved wall in the living room wasn’t right for a piece of artwork but they were crying out for a little something!

BOLD, COLOURFUL DETAILS

The wingback chair was a family heirloom and so it became the centrepiece for the layout as well as reupholstering it in a flamboyant fabric. The colour scheme for this room was all based around this chair.

EYE-CATCHING DETAILS

This saucy lady had been hidden away at the back of the living room but we felt that she was perfect for the bedroom, the right vibe and colours for the Master bedroom.

COSY DETAILS

A relaxed corner in the kitchen full of natural light, makes all the difference!

"Kate took us step-by-step on a journey, from layout, decoration, furniture selection, accessorising and styling. She was a joy to work with throughout – so patient with our questions, always painstakingly explaining the more complex aspects and offering options. She seemed to "get" us from the start and her creativity and ingenuity constantly amazed us"
